Everyone loves ice cream, so what’s better to collect than ice cream memorabilia? For us it’s ice cream scoops.

When we tell friends that we are collectors of old ice cream scoops they respond as though we might be unstable. But, when we engage these same friends with a tour of the collection they seem to get it.

When we first joined into this hobby I thought that we were among a very small number of like-minded enthusiast. We have discovered that it is not so uncommon. Apparently, most everything that invokes memories of the past has a following. The Ice Screamers club is a group of ice cream lovers that celebrate the history of all things ice cream. Upon joining this group we have made many new friends and now our passion for scoop collecting feels quite normal.

I have gathered many pictures of scoops from various collections and I am always amazed at the seemingly endless variety. How could the market have supported so many designs? What were the inventors thinking with these contraptions?
